Pharmacy-Driven Ticket-Support System & Project Management Tool
The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) is a 700+ bed academic medical center with an electronic health record (EHR) system that is supported by McKesson Corp. However, this system interfaces with other systems that are supported by several vendors. In the near future, there are plans for our enterprise-wide system to transition to Epic Systems Corporation. The pharmacy department consists of several inpatient, outpatient and other areas that span multiple locations in Charleston, SC.
The Medication Use Policies & Informatics (MUPI) division consists of 3 work areas – Drug Information, Pharmacy Information Systems (PharmIS) and Pharmacy Outcomes Management. All of these areas involve the transfer of large quantities of information. The demands on these areas have increased significantly with the planned implementation of new computer systems and hiring FTE staff. These demands have also increased the interdependence of these three areas. The core software/hardware components that our area maintains are listed as follows:
There is a significant need for a ticket-support system and/or project management tool that can track projects and tasks.
Does anyone have any experience with or a good source of information on establishing a pharmacy-driven and pharmacy-supported ticketing system to track internal work productivity and/or external customers' PharmIS consults/requests? We're past the point in the fiscal year to request resources from the Director of Pharmacy, so we would prefer that this could be developed in-house and not require significant maintenance or external support; yet we need this to be scalable to future needs. Discussion or referral is much appreciated. Thank you.
