Oh, how the tables have turned!

Somehow, and believe me I don't know how, it's already time for Midyear during my first year of residency! It's been a crazy few months as a new practitioner/new resident/graduate student. If I had to write a book about how much I've learned about pharmacy and life, it would be quite the novel. Most recently I have been focused on preparing for Midyear and what that means as a pharmacy resident.

This year I will not be formally seeking a residency or a job because my residency is a combined PGY1/PGY2 program. While this serves as a short-term relief, I also know that I will be meeting potential employers throughout the entire week. At all times I am still required to be at the top of my game... which is exhausting! My advice to other residents in this scenario: continue to make connections even in your "off" year and avoid burning any bridges!

This Midyear will also be my first meeting NOT interviewing at Residency Showcase. For some reason, I'm just as nervous! Today we were discussing how busy those few hours will be and all the questions we will have to answer. I really am crossing my fingers that I won't disappoint my boss and be able to highlight all the positive features of my program.

I'm also nervous about the presentation I will be making on Thursday. It's only a quick 12 minute talk about something I know really well, but I'm still nervous! I will be the only new practitioner on the panel and I want to make sure I represent us well!

Finally, I want to make sure I am able to make connections with everyone else who will be at Midyear. From past interns at Johns Hopkins, friends from the Cardinal Leadership Conference, mentors, and even my friends from Ohio Northern, I have no idea how I'm going to see everyone!

I wish everyone a wonderful time at Midyear 2012 in Las Vegas and I look forward to watching your videos when we return!
