Just keep swimming, just keep swimming!

As a PGY1 pharmacy resident and new practitioner, I find myself reminiscing about last year when applying for a residency position.  The feeling of the “unknown” is something that is all too familiar to fourth year pharmacy students around this time of year.  Anxiety is sky high and anticipation is at its peak.  After going through applying, interviewing, and ranking programs, I can tell you that in the end, it is all worth it.  There is a light at the end of the tunnel, and I promise it will all pay off! Some advice I would like to give new practitioners is to always be involved.  Don’t stop making those connections and staying involved in the pharmacy profession just because you are out of school and moving on to a residency position or pharmacist position.  Networking is one of the biggest advantages of being connected through ASHP, and I wouldn’t be where I am today without the help of people from all over the country I have met through my leadership activities and involvement in ASHP.  Yes, residency will be hard, but there is always a balance.  Don’t lose that drive that got you to where you are today and be sure to stay involved in whichever group you choose to be involved in.  Good luck to everyone applying for residencies/jobs, and remember, just keep swimming!
