Found time for Module 1C: Pulmonary (VTE & Pneumonia)

I was able to complete module 1C this month (at the buzzer). I enjoyed this module more than the first 2 since it seemed much more clinically focused and there were no papers on statistics! Who wouldn't prefer that?

This module contained only 3 papers, although one was a whopping 40+ page guideline on PE management. It was a good refresher and contained good comparisons and summaries of the studies on the new oral anticoagulants, including the newest one, edoxaban. The guidelines were straightforward and you should be familiar with them if you work in a hospital. The other papers were on pneumococcal vaccines and pneumonia. The vaccine paper was interesting and the pneumonia paper was again pretty straightforward and familiar information.

The test this time was 30 questions and it took me a little over an hour to complete (in the Ikea cafeteria while my wife shopped). I was able to answer 28/30 questions, and I would guess I missed something on the vaccine article as these were the only questions that really made you have to think.

Overall the whole module took me 4-5 hours to complete. I skimmed large portions of the PE article that did not relate directly to pharmacy, but still appreciated the information being presented.

Next month hopefully I can get it done a little earlier!
