BCPS Ambassador :: Recertification Journey :: VTE and Pneumonia

By Emily Ratcliff posted 05-16-2016 14:49

This weekend I enjoyed some time outside in the sunshine-- working in the dirt weeding strawberries, out at a baseball game, and then walking my dog along one of Nashville's many greenways. But I also spent some time working toward my goal of BCPS recertification. I was able to refresh my knowledge on pneumonia treatment guidelines as well as VTE diagnosis and management. What a valuable duo of information. Working at a small community hospital, pneumonia is our bread and butter in the ICU, and I was glad to be able to evaluate our practices and gain the knowledge I need to boost our evidence-based treatment and limit the overuse of antibiotics. And with all of the NOAC discussions in the last couple of years, it was nice to go back to the guidelines and remember what evidence there is to support or not support the use of these agents and how they compare to our gold standard options. As always, the time I spent working through these modules was rewarding for more than just the CE earned (although, that's always a plus!), I was able to better my practice and will be able to better serve my patients. And that's what being a pharmacist is all about.

What have you been learning lately?
