BCPS Ambassador :: Recertification Journey :: Asthma and COPD

By Emily Ratcliff posted 06-30-2016 14:34

I don't venture often into the world of Starbucks anymore. Mostly because it reminds me of days past, spent pouring over school material and cramming for tests, wishing instead I was napping or outside enjoying the sunshine. Plus there's the whole economical angle that reminds me my K-cups at home are only $0.35 a cup. But occasionally I will revisit that magical land of roasted beans and smiling baristas, driven either by my love for caffeine or my need for a focused reading and studying environment. Yesterday I was in search of the latter, so I got my latte, settled in a corner table, and spent about four hours brushing up on asthma and COPD management. The articles I read focused specifically on the role of magnesium in asthma, the effects of withdrawing inhaled corticosteroids in COPD patients established on therapy, and the benefits of azithromycin in COPD. The last article was of particular interest since I have done several presentations throughout school and residency on the matter. It's a familiar (and interesting!) topic to me. And, as always, after my article reading and test taking session, I was reminded of why I love my career and how proud I am to do what I do every day.

I would love to hear your thoughts on any of the topics I was reading about and on your own personal BCPS recertification journey.

I hope y'all have a beautiful weekend! (Tomorrow is Friday, after all, and for that we can all be thankful!)

Thanks for reading!
