From everyone in the Practice Advancement and Advocacy Advisory Group, we congratulate you on completing your academic journey and continuing your pharmacy career as a new practitioner. As pharmacists, our goal is to practice at the highest level and provide care to our patients by collaborative practice and working interprofessionally in the medical team.

As a new practitioner, it is crucial that you continue your involvement with professional organizations and legislative advocacy. By continuing your commitment, you engage into leadership roles that can shape the future of our profession.

As a new practitioner and resident, it was important for me to be “present” in my profession. Legislative efforts to promote provider status for pharmacists influence of who and how I may be able to provide health services. The beneficiary of my clinical services has always been the patient, and as a provider it was important for me to engage in activities that would promote better health outcomes, remove access barriers, and to work together with other health disciplines in achieving efficient and safe care.

So as you start your journey as a pharmacist, please pledge your commitment in stay relevant within our profession. Whether it is to promote for provider status within your respective state, advocate for legislative bills to allow patients to receive health services from pharmacists, or start a letter campaign, your voice can impact the future of patient care.
