Can you believe in less than a month we will be all be meeting in Las Vegas for the 2016 ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting? Now many of you may be stressed reading that Midyear is so close, but I am here to give you helpful hints and tips on how to tackle Midyear in Las Vegas this year.

ASHP has over 43,000 members and over 20,000 will be attending the Midyear Clinical Meeting, with thousands of those attendees being students. This year ASHP is on track to set a new record for the highest attendance at a Midyear Clinical Meeting. In preparation for your trip, I would encourage you to check out the Las Guide Midyear Clinical Guide, developed by the Career Development and Education Advisory Group. This guide will provide you with advice for travel, things to do, places to eat, and more in Las Vegas.

Packing - Make sure you have business professional dress, business cards, copies of your updated CV, a portfolio and/or briefcase (nothing too flashy), a watch, portable cell phone battery, and comfortable shoes. Las Vegas is very spread out, and you may be walking many miles throughout the day. You may also want to pack snacks and a water bottle for your long days! Lastly, make sure to bring your ID with you to the meeting.

I would have your travel information and hotel information ready and plan how you will be getting to and from your hotel and convention center with an airport shuttle, taxi, Uber, Lyft, or Midyear shuttle bus. If you are presenting a poster, make sure you plan how to travel with your poster and know when and where you will be setting up and presenting your poster. This is a great opportunity to invite friends, residents, and residency programs to visit your poster. Midyear registration opens on Saturday at 7AM at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center Bayside A, Level 1 and runs throughout the meeting. Registration will also be available at the MGM Grand, Conference Center, Level 1 on Saturday and Sunday. I would suggest reviewing the educational programming for students and other educational sessions prior to attending the meeting to finalize your schedule. Josh Sundquist will be our pharmacy student forum opening session speaker this year. You will leave the presentation with ideas about how to use Josh’s Paralympic training motto “one more thing, one more time” to help you reach your professional goals by putting your best attributes to work in their careers. You don’t want to miss this event!

I want to remind everyone to visit the ASHP Career Center website for some practical tools in preparing for PPS, residency showcase, and interviews. Don’t forget to prepare, network, and most importantly have fun at Midyear! ASHP will be having a scavenger hunt and selfie challenge during Midyear. The prizes are an AMEX gift card, Lyft gift cards, an ASHP gift certificate, and an apple sport watch. If you don’t have twitter, now is the perfect time to create an account and follow #ASHP16. More details about the competition will be promoted on twitter during Midyear. Be looking out for another blog post with tips for tackling residency showcase and PPS!
