What Mentor Match has to offer ....

By Lauren Latten posted 01-31-2017 23:51

ASHP is an organization that represents pharmacists in acute and ambulatory settings. This organization offers an array of resources that assist students, residents, and practicing pharmacists with career development. One resource that ASHP offers is called the Mentor Match. The Mentor Match is a service that supports the professional development needs of ASHP members.

Last year, I reached out to a practicing pharmacist through Mentor Match. My mentor was extremely friendly and offered me great advice and access to multiple opportunities. Mentor Match is a phenomenal program that has developed me professionally and directly exposed me to opportunities such as gaining an industry mentor and receiving an internship offer.

I met an industry pharmacist that worked in New York City. One day, he randomly asked for my CV. This past September, someone from a major pharmaceutical corporation reached out to me for an interview. Ultimately, I received the job and will intern there this summer. I encourage members to utilize ASHP resources, such as Mentor Match. They can lead to invaluable networking and career opportunities. Networking is key to being successful in any career, but is especially pertinent in the healthcare field. Networking and team work is essential in settings such as acute and ambulatory care.
