  • Why are questions so important for leaders
    • You only get answers to the questions you ask which makes them so powerful
    • Questions unlock and open doors that otherwise would remain closed and we would miss all kinds of possibilities leading to opportunities, experiences and people
    • Questions are the most effective means of connecting with people which is how leaders have influence through relationships
    • Questions cultivate humility, which enables us to be authentic, vulnerable, trustworthy and intimate with others. People are open to those that are open with them
    • Questions help you engage others in conversations by getting to know them and showing that you want to add value to them
    • Questions allow us to build better ideas because of the input from others so they can become great ideas
    • Questions give us a different perspective so we don't act on faulty assumptions
    • Questions challenge mindsets and get you out of ruts as they are the first link in the chain of discovery and innovation
    •  Good questions inform but great questions transform
    • Am I adding value to my team which is a question of teamwork as enhanced by
      • Promoting full commitment
      • Creating an environment of encouragement and support
      • Identifying adversity as an opportunity
      • Maximizing each person’s strengths
    • Am I staying in my strength zone which is a question of effectiveness and will set you apart from others
    • Am I taking care of today which is a question of success as well as looking to the future in all aspects of your career and life
    • Am I investing my time with the right people which is a question of ROI as the greatest legacy any leader can leave is the other leaders that have been raised up
    • What are the most important values for a leader
      • Servant hood which means putting others interests above your own
      • Purpose or vision so you let your why direct your what and you can grow to your maximum potential
      • Integrity by focusing more on your responsibilities than on your rights by doing more than you expect of others. You are the role model
      • Relationships which provide your leadership influence not your position nor title
      • Renew yourself daily by replenishing your energy, feeding your soul and stimulating your mind through outside interests so you don't run out of gas and squander your leadership opportunity

      • Give more than you receive which requires you to go beyond yourself

      • Humility which is understanding my place in light of the bigger picture
      • Authenticity or being comfortable in your own skin
      • Have a calling, purpose or vision that is bigger than you
  • What must I do to lead myself successfully as this where your personal credibility is established
    • Why does leading myself seem more difficult than leading others
      • We all have blind spots such as having a singular perspective, insecurity, an out-of-control ego and weak character
  • How can I succeed working under poor leadership
    • Often bad bosses try to shirt their responsibilities and place them on the follower so attempt to ask questions in such a way that the responsibility goes back on their backs
    • How would you work with a difficult leader who lacks vision
      • Tap into the organization’s larger vision
      • Identify a vision for your workgroup and share it with your boss
      • Develop your own sense of purpose
    • How would you work with a difficult leader who has attitude and character problems which can continually drag you down
      • Can be contagious so live on a higher level yourself
      • You goal as a leader must be to be a positive influence on others
      • Try and separate yourself as much as you can
      • Put as much communication in writing as possible so you can show your right doing in case your boss tries to drag you down with blame
