Zig Ziglar (success.com) in 5 Ways To Get Twice as Much Done Every Day has the following advice for pharmacy leaders.
- The key is not to have to work longer or harder
- Get organized
- Start preparing the night before or as you leave the day before and document your plan
- This is goal setting or what you want to achieve
- Rank your goals in order of their importance
- Get the difficult and disagreeable things out of the way first so you free your mind to concentrate on the rest of the list
- Accept responsibility and make a commitment to achieve actual results
- Show commitment
- Commitment is important because when you hit the wall-not if but when- you have made a commitment
- Your first thought is How do I solve this problem
- Not How do I get out of this deal
- It is how you make things happen which is effective leadership
- It shows you really care about what you are doing and other people
- It shows you are dependable
- Build integrity
- When you do the right thing you have nothing to feel guilty about
- With integrity you have nothing to fear because you have nothing to hind
- With guilt and fear removed your have the mental energy to be very productive
- Stay positive
- Interestingly the 1828 Webster’s Dictionary does not have the word pessimist in it only optimist
- Armed with a plan, you get to work on time or a little early and immediately get started
- You don't stand around saying Well I wonder what I should do today as you can’t wait to get started
- Being enthusiastic and highly motivated you move decisively from one task to another
- Cut the chitchat
- Have you noticed that people who have nothing to do want to do it with you
- Because you are moving from one thing to another when you finish one with a purpose people will not block you for that five minute gossip session
- The author is convinced that the listener has more to do with the gossiping that the speaker because if they don’t listen the person moves on
- These techniques should save you a minimum of an hour a day in two-three-five minute increments which is five hours a week or 250 hours per year (six weeks of your life).
