With the evolving healthcare landscape, pharmacy technicians are increasingly needed in specialized roles to support initiatives aimed at improving patient outcomes. Adequate knowledge and skills along with effective training methods are required to undertake these advanced roles. This activity will describe the attributes needed for pharmacy technicians to be successful in advanced roles. Participants will learn about  innovative training processes including a pharmacy technician residency program. 

Karen V. Youmbi, Pharm.D., BCPS Manager, Pharmacy Regulatory Surveillance Cedars-Sinai Medical Center Los Angeles, California Karen V. Youmbi, Pharm.D., BCPS, is Pharmacy Regulatory Surveillance Manager at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. She earned both her Bachelor of Science in biotechnology and Doctorate of Pharmacy degrees from Northeastern University in Boston. She has over 10 years of experience in regulatory compliance, quality assurance, and performance improvement in both the pharmaceutical industry and health-system pharmacy fields. In addition to ensuring regulatory compliance for the department of pharmacy services, she is also responsible for overseeing the medication diversion surveillance program, and coordinating the department’s performance improvement initiatives and staff education and training program
