Dr. Witmer is the owner of Witmer Strategic Solutions, which provides consulting services to nonprofit organizations focusing on board development, strategic planning, business development, consensus event planning, and professional policy analysis. He previously served as Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Vice President of the Office of Member Relations, Director of the Professional Practice and Scientific Affairs Division, Director of ASHP’s Section of Clinical Specialists and Scientists, and as Director of the Clinical Affairs Department at the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP). Prior to joining the staff of ASHP, Dr. Witmer practiced as a clinical pharmacist and served in management roles at University Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio and the Oklahoma Medical Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He also held faculty positions at the University of Cincinnati and University of Oklahoma Colleges of Pharmacy. Dr. Witmer has published and presented both nationally and internationally on numerous topics related to pharmacy practice and has served on a variety of advisory committees both at ASHP and other organizations. He has served as the Secretary of ASHP’s Commission on Therapeutics, Council on Pharmacy Practice, Council on Pharmacy Management, and Task Force on Science. Dr. Witmer was a contributing author on five petitions to the Board of Pharmacy Specialties resulting in formal BPS recognition of new pharmacy specialties and has conducted research and published on the impact of drug shortages in hospitals. Dr. Witmer has appeared on Fox News Network, ABC World News Tonight, and News Night Maryland and has been quoted in the Washington Post, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and other print and on-line media. Dr. Witmer holds a Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Pharmacy degrees from the University of Cincinnati, College of Pharmacy and completed a Residency in Hospital Pharmacy at Bethesda Hospitals in Cincinnati, Ohio.
