In applying for residencies these last couple of months, I have learned that there really isn't an easy way to schedule interviews...Keeping in mind that residency is competitive, I was declined by 4 sites for interviews
On behalf of ASHP I would like to congratulate everyone who matched in today’s Pharmacy Residency Match Program
I've also been very discouraged in this job market because for position after position in the job listings we see the same thing: "completion of a PGY-1 residency required" or "residency preferred." So my question is this: How does the experienced but not residency trained pharmacist compete in this market?
4 Comments - Anthony you bring up an important and overlooked point in the big push towards residency training. Having a PGY 1 residency doesn't automatically make you better or more experienced than the clinical pharmacist with 10+ years of experience in the field
On behalf of ASHP, congratulations to all who matched during Match Phase I of the 2021 ASHP Residency Matching Program!
ASHP is proud of the countless residents who have participated in the ASHP Residency Match program over the last 40-plus years and the hundreds of programs that are a part of our nearly 60-year history of accrediting pharmacy residency programs
Congratulations to all who matched during Phase I of the 2019 Residency Match! By pursuing a residency, you have chosen to distinguish yourself by furthering your education and training
Congratulations to all who matched during Phase I of the Residency Match! By choosing to do a residency, you have taken an important step toward achieving ASHP’s vision that medication use will be optimal, safe, and effective for all people all of the time
Residency programs vary in many regards, including specialty and practice site, so how do you pick the right residency?
1 Comment - Now is the perfect time of year for P4 students (and other residency candidates) to start considering everything mentioned above...Best of luck to all participating in the residency selection process!
I am writing this article for those individuals who have not matched for residency and have planned to reapply the following year. I am writing from my experience of mentoring students (now pharmacists) who did not match the first time and had worked on reapplying the following year for residency. I think the main differences of those who reapplied was that they were more open to geography, assessing all the programs instead of a select few.
It should be noted that over the last five years residency positions have increased by 1,594...Oddis, created the concept of residency training and began accrediting programs 55 years ago
