NPF PAIAG - Change

By Alex Isaacs posted 11-27-2013 09:14

Change seems to occur frequently in life; however, it does evolve on its own.  As Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. stated, “Change does not roll in on the wheels of inevitability, but comes through continuous struggle.”

Through the work of countless pharmacy pioneers, the roles and responsibilities of pharmacists have continued to develop.  The advancement of the profession has created new and exciting opportunities enabling pharmacists to provide optimal patient care.  As mentioned in the Oath of a Pharmacist, “Pharmacists will embrace and advocate changes that improve patient care.” The New Practitioner’s Forum (NPF) Practice Advancement Initiatives Advisory Group (PAIAG) aims to highlight new practitioners facilitating change through local and national pharmacy initiatives.

The PAIAG is tasked with embracing the Forum’s role in supporting practice advancement planning such as the Pharmacy Practice Model Initiative (PPMI), the Pharmacy Technician Initiative (PTI), and ongoing efforts in residency expansion.

The 2013-2014 PAIAG charge will be to emphasize the role of new practitioners in the innovation of the profession through:

  • PPMI case studies
  • PPMI highlights
  • PPMI pearls

I'd also like to take a brief moment to introduce myself.  My name is Alex Isaacs and I am a recent graduate of Butler University and the current PGY2 pharmacotherapy resident at Butler University and Indiana University Health.  I am serving my first term on an ASHP NPF advisory group and am excited to blog along with other PAIAG members throughout the year to highlight the spectacular accomplishments of new practitioners!

At the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting, PAIAG members will be examining posters and programs for PPMI and other advancement projects involving new practitioners.  Please let us know of initiatives being accomplished by new practitioners at your facility by commenting below or emailing me at aisaacs1@iuhealth.org.

And remember, change does not happen alone, but we must be the proponents of change for the profession.  As Ghandi said, “Be the change that you wish to see in the world.”
