I came across an interesting article in the
ASHP Intersections about the changing pharmacy job market. Its definitely something that has been on my mind, especially with graduation coming up next year. Does this mean I cant work close to home? Will I be able to pay off my loans? Should I look into fields/specialties that are in demand (but I absolutely hate)? I sure hope not.
I'll admit that this is one of the reasons why I will be applying to residency programs next year. Heck, maybe I'll even go for a second year. Afterall, we are all expected to be lifelong learners, right?
But aside from job security, having more and more highly trained pharmacists out in the field can only reflect highly for our profession. With the PPMI and healthcare reform looming all around us, perhaps this little scare is exactly what we need to turn the profession around.
