NPF PPAG Update – Beating the Winter Blues

By Elaine Nguyen posted 03-02-2014 17:55

Brrr! It has been an icy, cold, and even treacherous winter for much of the United States. While sparkly snow falls can sometimes leave us enchanted, too much of winter can also leave us feeling a little down. Thankfully, the New Practitioners Forum (NPF) Professional Practice Advisory Group (PPAG) has not let this winter get us down and we have continued to work for our members! (Check out Cody’s last post HERE to see where we left off.)

We are thrilled to report that the best practices for specialty certification for the Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS) exam is near completion! As a reminder, we have created both a 10-month and accelerated 4-month study calendar to help keep you on track and prepare for the exam. The calendars will serve as a great resource, especially since the schedule coordinates with ASHP’s core therapeutic modules (http://www.ashp.org/coremodules ).

PPAG members are continuing to scour the relevant literature to further our work with the sepsis Pocket Topic, which has been broken down into three sections (pressor support, antibiotics, and glucose control). PPAG members have found nearly 60 articles that could be incorporated into the anticoagulation reversal Pocket Topic. These articles will be examined and the contents of the Pocket Topic refined to best meet the needs of members.

With the arrival of March, hopefully we will all start to receive some respite from this winter weather and can leap forward into spring! But until the sun starts shining and the flowers start blooming, we all might have to find our own sunshine to beat the winter blues! When you are in need of a little support, remember your pharmacy family is always there for you!
