On its way: Outstanding Resident Resource

March started with a “Super Tuesday” and with this big start, I have no doubt that this month will be a busy one. You might even say it will be a madness-filled month, but hopefully a good kind of madness filled with excitement and opportunity. I’m not necessarily talking about the success of your favorite presidential candidate or your college basketball bracket, but the Match (AKA the ASHP Resident Matching Program).

As residency candidates and programs have prepared their rank order lists, many of you may be feeling anxious. Candidates may be wondering, where will I be in 4 months? Am I ready for this next step? While I don’t know where you will be in 4 months, I do believe that you are ready for this next chapter in your professional career, whatever it may bring.

For those of you still feeling a little apprehensive about becoming a resident, I have some good news to share! The New Practitioner’s Forum Career Development Advisory Group has been creating a “Becoming an Outstanding Resident” package, which reviews and provides beneficial resources on the following topics:

  • Leadership
  • Interpersonal development
  • Public speaking and presentations
  • Teaching and learning
  • Journal publication

I’ve previewed the package and I only wish that I had it available as a resident! It’s filled with an abundance of resources that will be a valuable resource for pharmacists (and future pharmacists) at any stage in their career. The release date is TBD, but I will keep you updated!

I recognize that, for some of you, being a superstar resident might not yet be on your mind and that I’ve skipped ahead a little in time. However, time really does fly (okay, not literally) and being an outstanding resident will be on your mind sooner than you know it!

Lastly, I know this can be a very stressful time so don’t forget to reach out to your pharmacy family and share your thoughts! Best of luck!
