Spring Fever

By Elaine Nguyen posted 03-28-2016 19:14

Spring is here! Okay, some of you may be staring at a pile of snow, but the 2016 spring equinox has occurred and the birds are beginning to chirp. Even if it is a little chilly outside, you still may be suffering from spring fever (i.e., a feeling of restlessness and excitement felt at the beginning of spring). As I find myself daydreaming about frolicking in fields, I remember that I do not have the pleasure of an official spring break to cure me of my ailment. I have had to settle for jogging outdoors and finding excuses to walk instead of drive, but even this increased exercise and sun has been doing wonders for my spirit! While I let myself take advantage of the changing weather, I remind myself that the year is far from an end. I am enjoying my personal time, but also trying to harness this energy into finishing my professional projects and starting new ones. While I have been doing this in my own life, I realized that the New Practitioners Forum (NPF) Career Development Advisory Group (CDAG) is also doing the same.

The CDAG members are putting the finishing touches on our charges, which include the following:

  • Developing a networking guidance webinar
  • Developing a “How to be an Outstanding Resident” package
  • Creating a “What to Expect at PPS” toolkit
  • Compiling an extensive list of professional resources (covering 10 different topics)

These projects are all being reviewed by the NPF Executive Committee in April! This means these resources are one step closer to being accessible to all of our NPF members. Needless to say, we are all very excited!

As I mentioned earlier, this is also the time to start new projects and the CDAG members have no plans of “coasting” until the end of our term. We are brainstorming new projects and charges to continue supporting career development and advancement for new practitioners. If you have any ideas for us, please post or message me! Now, go enjoy the weather! :)
