Together ASHP and its State Affiliates Make a Great PPMI Team

I have been so impressed with the progress to date with ASHP and the ASHP Foundation’s Pharmacy Practice Model Initiative, and the support that it has received from ASHP’s state affiliates. Even though the PPMI Summit occurred in November 2010, state affiliates were already were discussing the imperatives for practice model change back in November 2008 at the State Affiliate Presidential Officers’ Retreats across the country.

Since the official launch of PPMI, state affiliates have taken the lead in spreading the word about the Initiative. Already over 40% of state affiliates have offered educational programming about PPMI, and several states are now forming working groups to systematically review the recommendations and identify actions that they can focus on as state-based pharmacy organizations. After all, many of the PPMI recommendations will need to be implemented at the state legislative and regulatory level. This Initiative underscores how ASHP and its state affiliates can effectively partner together to achieve a common vision.

If you are not a member of your respective state affiliate but are a member of ASHP, why not join your state organization? ASHP formally affiliates with state organizations for the synergies that can be achieved at the state and national level such as the PPMI.  For those of you who are members at the state and national level, we thank you for your continued support. I am confident that our state affiliates will continue their PPMI momentum. Keep your eyes out for more information on state affiliate activities on the PPMI section of the ASHP website.
