Intracoronary nicardipine solution (50 mcg/mL) preparation for the Cath Lab

By Kelsey Overfield posted 11-08-2018 15:28

Good afternoon colleagues,

Our cath lab uses intracoronary nicardipine (50 mcg/mL) in the treatment of no-reflow during percutaneous coronary interventions. Does anyone prepare this solution for their cath lab and if so, how do you prepare it and what dating do you give it?

Thank you,
Kelsey Overfield

Our cath lab has previously mixed it in the past  Pharmacy has recently just taken over batching it.  Pharmacy batches on Sundays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.  We make Nicardipine 1000mcg/10 ml.  0.4 ml Nicardipine ( 25mg/10ml) 9.6 ml sodium chloride
Stable for 48 hours RT and protect from light.  Our tech's have to manage these and pull the expired ones and replace with new ones on the batch days.  Thanks!
