This month, I chose to complete the recertification module that dealt with medication safety issues. This section focused on many different topics, including classifying errors and discussing the changing of cultures to ensure safe environments for our patients. Medication safety is definitely a very important topic. We want to ensure that as healthcare employees, we are providing not only the best possible care for our patients, but also the safest environment. NO matter how good our care is, if we do not provide a safe environment for our patients, they will never get better. Environments that do not focus on reducing medication errors and working out ways to prevent errors in the future will not provide a safe place for our patients to get better.
It was very interesting to read the various studies on reducing errors, classifying errors, and creating an environment of safety. This topic is something all pharmacists should have to read about and stay up date to on, since we are part of the multi-disciplinary team that can help to provide a safe environment for our patients in the healthcare system.
