Hi Everyone. It doesn’t seem possible but it has been a year since Mary Ann and I launched the book,
Building a Successful Ambulatory Care Practice: A Complete Guide for Pharmacists. For all of you out there that have bought a hard copy or an eBook we appreciate the support and hope you have found the various chapters to be helpful in the evolution of your practice model. However, if some of you are like me, there are times you have more questions than answers as you read to stay current. So Mary Ann and I, with the help of the chapter authors, thought it would be a great idea to “bring the book to life” so readers could do just that…. ask questions as they use the book to build their practice or change their current model.
Starting on February 1, we will be initiating a blog series that will continue throughout the year on ASHP Connect. The series will be called, “Fridays with Ambulatory Care,” and a new topic will post on the first Friday of each month. We encourage you to participate in discussions and ask questions of the chapter experts based on topics covered in the book, or even discuss new challenges that have arose even since the book was published. For example I struggled with Chapter 3 in Developing a Business Plan, I just do not understand how to do this well and would love to pick the authors’ brains!
The way this will work is that each month a chapter from the book will be represented by its authors who will post a blog related to the chapter. The first discussion will focus on the topic: "Defining the Ambulatory Patient Care Model." The authors have been asked to start the discussion with a current controversial or hot topic and then ask how you are handling this particular topic or initiative in your practice, or better yet what struggles have you encountered. A good example that I am struggling with currently is: How do I educate the health system administrators so they see my value when it comes to applying for PCMH level 3 status? This is the type of topic that might be posted and for it to gain traction your input or commiseration is needed. Over the month the chapter authors will help lead dialogue and answer questions.
The blogs will run in sequence with the chapters in the book and if we stay on track the last author blog will be in October with a wrap up in November, along with an announcement that will enhance the already existing book. Stay tuned since Mary Ann and I have some surprises up our sleeves this year that hopefully will help keep your Ambulatory Care Practice Model moving forward!
