Biography

Marjorie Shaw Phillips has practiced as a pharmacist for the last 32 years at AU Medical Center (the clinical enterprise affiliated with Augusta University) in Augusta, Georgia. Prior to February 1, 2011, the university was known as the Medical College of Georgia (MCG) and hospital as MCG Health. She is the Chair of the Augusta University Institutional Review Board (IRB -C) which oversees Hematology/Oncology (Georgia Cancer Center) and biomedical research. ASHP service includes Chair of the Commission on Credentialing (2022), Chair of the House of Delegates (2003-2006), Board of Directors (2002-2006), House of Delegates (many years since 1992), Council on Organizational Affairs (1991-1994), Ad Hoc Committee on Policy Development, USP Advisory Committee, Section of Clinical Specialists Communication Committee and drafter for two ASHP Guidelines. She is Past President, Georgia Society of Health-System Pharmacists and Eastern Shores Florida Society of Hospital Pharmacists, and a past Board Member and Committee Chair for both FSHP and GSHP. In 1997, she was GSHP Pharmacist of the Year. Her professional contributions also includes several book chapters and over 30 publications and 70 presentations (on topics varying from medication safety, performance improvement, team-building, investigational medication management and clinical trials compliance). She served two five year terms on the USP Safe Medication Use Expert Committee and was the Vice-Chair 2005-2010. Marjorie was one of 107 voting participants at the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP)/ASHP Research and Education Foundation Pharmacy Practice Model Initiative (PPMI) Summit. She has a continuing appointment as an FDA medication safety consultant (Special Government Employee) after completing a term on the the FDA Drug Safety & Risk Management Advisory Committee (DSaRM). Marjorie has served on the ASHP Commission on Credentialing since 2017 and has been a guest accreditation surveyor for many years.
